Cymraeg

Cymraeg Campus

At the moment we are working hard to achieve our Cymraeg Campus silver award for bilingualism.

We have ten sets of targets to meet across all aspects of school life. These targets are tracked on our Welsh Dragon display.

Our targets include:

  • Using Welsh in worship
  • Playing Welsh playground games
  • Reading in Welsh
  • Using Welsh apps
  • Using Welsh around the school

Each week, we present Siaradwr y Wythnos during Worship. This award is given to one child in each class and one teacher who has used the most Welsh around school that week.

We also have a Brawddeg y Mis (Sentence of the Month). This sentence is displayed in every classroom and can also be viewed on our school Instagram account. The Criw Cymraeg listen out for this sentence being used throughout the month.

We would love to encourage everyone to have a go at speaking Welsh at home too!

Welsh language games based around the Cbeebies TV series.

The Hwb website has a wealth of interesting activities, stories and information to improve your understanding of Welsh culture/ history and the Welsh language.

Here you can zoom through space and discover stories, songs and games created especially for young Welsh learners. Bliblob is an animated, talking guide who morphs into the meaning of Welsh words used in the stories and the songs. Bliblob can also be used either with stories and songs or on its own to learn new words and sentences in a fun way.

Cynefin

Learning Welsh is important not just as a language, but as part of our Cynefin – who we are and where we belong. At our school, children learn about Wales in fun and exciting ways. We visit many important Welsh landmarks, including Cardiff Castle, Cardiff Bay, St Fagans and Llangrannog, giving pupils the opportunity to explore and enjoy their country.

We also run the Castles Challenge, which encourages children to visit our four Welsh house castles: Caernarfon, Conwy, Pembroke and Caerphilly. These experiences help bring Welsh history and culture to life and build pride in Wales.
