Firstly a BIG THANKYOU to the new parents that joined us last year, bringing fresh ideas and enthusiasm. Hopefully more parents like you will be welcomed with open arms this coming school year.
Over the last 12 months we planned, coordinated and implemented many new and old events. This time last year we were co-ordinating our second Bonfire Night and Fireworks Display and with the introduction of PA system and music, an improved experience was achieved.
A new event last year was our Christmas Fayre, where we invited local businesses to join us to start our Christmas festivities. An event that we hope can be repeated again for 2011.
The weather was kind to us for the now annual Sponsored Bounce where children, teachers (and parents) experienced the fun and healthy way to raise money for our school. Who would have thought bouncing on a bouncy castle could raise so much money?
Throughout out the year several discos are run for all ages and each year a new dance craze is found.
The year was ended with our fourth Summer Fun day, where again school and community come together. Although this year the weather couldn’t decide if would rain or shine, we were able to introduce the very successful Pony rides and balloon race with spirits still high!!
It would all not be possible without the much needed input and support of the core committee members. The events are undertaken to have fun, create a family and community environment, and where possible raise money for OUR children’s’ school.
Over the last year we have secured a profit of over £4800.This has been used towards flip cameras, Story phones, the Nursery Whiteboard and Laptop, as well as the very successful Happy puzzle Day. In previous years we have contributed towards the Playground markings, interactive whiteboards, PA and sound system, soccer goals, along with new rugby and football kits.
A very big Thank you should go to all the parents, teachers, relatives and children who have taken part in the events, both by helping and of course attending – your support is invaluable, as without you the PTA would not be possible. It is very much needed to be a joint effort between the school and the families of St Andrews.
I will end my review by reiterating the words of a previous chairperson –
All parents of children in the school are members of the PTA – Each year the committee is formed by a group of you “the parents”, coming together with teacher representatives to plan and co-ordinate activities. The social and fund raising events organised raise money for extra items or activities for the children of St Andrews School. It is therefore up to each of you to determine how you choose to actively participate within this process. Ultimately, the more successful the PTA is, the more our children benefit.
Your PTA needs You! Finally, on a personnel note I would like to thank all the parents that have helped me during the past 5 years as Chair and wish very success and support to my successor.
